Equilibrium Disk-Bulge-Halo Models for the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxies

چکیده
We describe a new set of self-consistent, equilibrium disk galaxy models that incorporate an exponential disk, a Hernquist model bulge, an NFW halo and a central supermassive black hole. The models are derived from explicit distribution functions for each component and the large number of parameters permit detailed modeling of actual galaxies. We present techniques that use structural and kinematic data such as radial surface brightness profiles, rotation curves and bulge velocity dispersion profiles to find the best-fit models for the Milky Way and M31. Through N-body realizations of these models we explore their stability against the formation of bars. The models permit the study of a wide range of dynamical phenomenon with a high degree of realism. Nearly Self-Consistent Disk-Bulge-Halo Models for Galaxies
We describe methods for setting up self-consistent disk-bulge-halo galaxy models. The bulge and halo distribution functions (df) are functions of E and Lz only. The halo’s flattening and rotation can be specified. The disk df is a function of E and Lz and a third “integral”, Ez, the vertical energy, which is approximately conserved in a warm disk with vertical extent. The models also have finit...
متن کاملDogs That Don't Bark? (the Tale of Baryonic Dark Matter in Galaxies)
This article reviews the nature and distribution of baryonic dark matter in galaxies , with a particular emphasis on the Milky Way. The microlensing experiments towards the Large Magellanic Clouds, the Andromeda Galaxy and the bulge provide evidence on the characteristic mass and abundance of baryonic dark matter, as do direct searches for local counterparts of dark halo populations.
متن کاملDynamical Blueprints for Galaxies
We present an axisymmetric, equilibrium model for late-type galaxies which consists of an exponential disk, a Sersic bulge, and a cuspy dark halo. The model is specified by a phase space distribution function which, in turn, depends on the integrals of motion. Bayesian statistics and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method are used to tailor the model to satisfy observational data and theoretical c...
متن کاملDoes the Milky Way have a Maximal Disk?
The Milky Way is often considered to be the best example of a spiral for which the dark matter not only dominates the outer kinematics, but also plays a major dynamical role in the inner galaxy: the Galactic disk is therefore said to be “sub-maximal.” This conclusion is important to the understanding of the evolution of galaxies and the viability of particular dark matter models. The Galactic e...
متن کاملWay dwarf satellites enter the halo as a group ?
The dwarf satellite galaxies in the Local Group are generally considered to be hosted in dark matter subhalos that survived the disruptive processes during infall onto their host halos. It has recently been argued that if the majority of satellites entered the Milky Way halo in a group rather than individually, this could explain the spatial and dynamical peculiarities of its satellite distribu...
